Having a baby is the most phenomenal experience in the world… until it isn’t. Perinatal mood disorders are the most common complication of pregnancy, affecting up to 1 in 5 pregnant women.  It is well known that pregnancy places demands on a woman's body, but the emotional toll it takes is often overlooked or ignored.  Perinatal mood disorders and anxiety are characterized by low or anxious mood, sleep and appetite disturbances, obsessive thoughts and worries, excessive fatigue, and low motivation.

After giving birth, 1 in 7 women can be at risk for a postpartum mood disorder, including depression and anxiety.  Sometimes women and those who love them may misinterpret their symptoms as the "baby blues," adjustment to parenting, or sleep deprivation.  However, if your baby is two weeks old and you feel nothing like yourself, you may be struggling with a postpartum disorder.

Our psychologists understand how perinatal disorders can affect your ability to care for yourself and your newborn baby.  We provide thorough mental health screenings to help you understand the nature of your symptoms.  Through education and support, we de-stigmatize and normalize your struggle and help you find a course to move forward.  We help women develop self-care routines, establish a support network, and challenge unhealthy beliefs about themselves and their ability to parent.  Through partnering with your medical doctors, we will assure you receive comprehensive and collaborative treatment to address your concerns.
